Overstimulation: How to soothe your baby
Overstimulation is when your newborn or baby has been given too much sensory stimulus than they can handle.
This could be too much noise, too much light, too many hugs from different people, too many activities or being awake for too long.
Your baby can become overtired from being left awake too long and then receive too much sensory stimulus because they are tired - resulting in your baby being both overstimulated and overtired.
If your baby is awake for longer than they should be, any stimulus will be too overwhelming for your baby.
This is the time where you whisk your baby away from grandmas, aunties and friends, bright lights and loud sounds, and go into a dark quiet room and get your baby to sleep as soon as possible.
