Wondering how to be best prepared for post birth?
What items you should be including in your hospital bag?
Then the Postnatal Pad that you will be wearing after birth is one that you want to get right!
For the first week or so you will be bleeding heavier than your heaviest normal period. You will be around the size you were are 20 weeks pregnant and your will be sore!
So you want to make sure you have the right postnatal pad that will help you to feel as comfortable and secure as possible!
Okay, stay with me! Adult diapers sound like something you should wear when you are well... older than you are now? Right?
Well, not anymore! This concept is quickly being thrown out with specific Women diapers being made with postnatal bleeding being considered.
Women diapers are disposable underwear with the protection from bleeding or bladder loss.
Benefits of Women Diapers
Why are Women Diapers better than Maternity Pads?
The Women diaper that I personally used for the first week or so was the Depend Women Real Fit Underwear and you can easily purchase this item online from Amazon!
You don't have to buy face to face at the shops.
The Depend Women Real Fit underwear is looks, fits and feels like a real underwear and is custom designed to fit the shape of women.
Depend have a worry free odour protection and are soft, discreet and breathable.
I found that the Depend Real Fit Underwear was easy to put on and off, dispose of and hold padsicles or small ice packs inside.
Depend Women Real Fit Underwear come in a range of sizes and different pack sizes.
I am normally a size 10 underwear and I bought the Medium Sized pack. I tore the sides while I was still a little big and gradually didn't need to at all. I felt comfortable and safe in this size and will buy medium again for second baby!
Here are a variety of sizes starting from medium through to extra large:
How many should you get?
You will want to change regularly and how many times you change will drastically change as you go through the first week.
For example, on the first day or so you may want to change every time you breastfeed (you loose more blood while feeding). On average this is every 3 hours. That is 8 times in 24 hours!
Depending on how heavy your flow is, how often you breastfeed, how clean you like to feel and how long your flow is heavy for will influence how many Women diapers you will need.
I would average it on 4 changes a day for the first week. This makes it 28 diapers. Therefore, a pack of 32 should be sufficient.
After the first week or so, you will be able to transition to a heavy flow or maternity pads.
Libra have a maternity pad range that have wings! They are also selling them online on Amazon!
Between 3-6 you will be able to transition to panty liners! On average women are free from blood after 6 weeks.
