To the Guilty Mumma, you are worthy.
You are worthy of love,
You are worthy of praise,
You are worthy of encouragement,
You are worthy of awe!
You should not be caged in by guilt,
Crippled by its notions of failure and imperfection,
Guilt should not be allowed to creep its ugly head in,
And become part of who you are!
You are not guilt,
Mumma, you should be feared and looked at in wonder,
Be feared for the strength that you possess to keep going,
Be wondered for your selflessness and abundant love - as only a Mum can do.
Guilt is a deep and unwanted emotion,
A feeling many Mothers are all too familiar with,
For even a fleeting moment,
Guilt can hold you and contain you.
Guilt should not hold you down,
Instead, it should be freed and you should be at peace,
Because, Mumma, you are enough as you are,
You are enough from simply doing your most.
From the very first day that you knew there was another life,
You knew your life would be forever changed,
And this new life would be precious,
A little, beautiful soul who would be completely reliant on you.
Trusting, loving, and adoring of you.
Filled with the knowledge that you were enough for them,
That you would be there,
To the Mumma, who felt the shock, the exhaustion,
And the trauma of such a labour intense event.
Don't allow guilt to stay.
Set it free.
To the Mumma who felt the turmoil over breastfeeding,
the endless, devastating crying,
And the pure lack of sleep - for baby and mum.
Don't let guilt take over your moments and memories.
To the Mumma who feels guilty for not getting a good routine going - or being consistent,
For spending too much time doing the chores - or not enough,
For being completely exhausted and not having anything left to give.
Don't let guilt rule your choices.
To the Mumma who forgets things and is late to events and appointments,
To the Working Mother who thinks she's not spending enough time with her babies,
The Stay at Home Mother who feels bad for not contributing to the finances,
To the should've's...
The could've's ...
And why didn't I's ...
You are good enough.
Take the "guilt" label off your shoulders - because you are worthy.
You are worthy of feeling weightless and free.
You are worthy enough to be and feel loved.
Instead of guilt and rejection,
Feel loved when your baby laughs and smiles at you!
Feel overjoyed when your baby learns to lift his head,
because you encouraged and persevered with tummy time.
Instead of guilt and worry,
Be thrilled that you allowed time for independent play for your little one,
While you made the bed, folded the washing or cooked dinner.
You make plenty of time for one-to-one engagement and interaction.
Instead of guilt and comparison,
Be empowered when you learn from others,
Listen and be enlightened by the advice from others,
And in turn be encouraging and giving to other mothers.
And most of all,
Laugh at the unbelievable moments and at mistakes you make,
Because there will be many,
And that's okay, Mumma!
